Queen of Peace recently received the following email 
and pictures from Dr. Walter Gunn, Class of 1955.
Dear Brother Lavallee,

I was recently awarded the 
"Outstanding Professional Achievement Award" 
by Admiral Worley, Superintendent of the United 
States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point 
and thought that I should share with you my 
pride in receiving this most coveted award.
I am most appreciative of the inspiration 
and excellent training I received from the 
devoted teachers at Queen of Peace, who 
instilled in me the love of science which 
made it possible for me to have had the 
wonderful career I had in Medical Research.

Dr. Walter Gunn '55

Dr. Walter J. Gunn '55 has had an illustrious career in education, science and medical and health research. He completed both his master's and doctorate's degrees at the University of Louisville and had faculty positions at the University of Cincinnati and Columbia University and Assistant Dean at Kings Point. He directed a series of studies of the health effects of noise on people while the Head of the Pyschoacoustics Section at NASA Langley Research Center. In 1976 he went to work at the Centers for Disease Control leading or playing a key role in over thirty major medical studies including the famous study of the association of Aspirin and Reye Syndrome. He formed his own consulting firm, Arlington Associates, in 1992 conducting studies in retroviral research and childhood immunization programs. Dr. Gunn has authored and co-authored over fifty articles and chapters in prestigious scientific journals and books.
