Frank Carvill '70 Killed in Iraq
Queen of Peace High School mourns the passing of Sgt. Frank Carvill, Class of 1970. Frank, a member of the New Jersey National Guard, was killed in action in Iraq on Friday, June 4, 2004, when his convoy was ambushed by a roadside explosive device in the Shiite district of Sadr City in Baghdad. He was one of five soldiers killed in that attack, during which three other New Jerseyans were also wounded.
Sgt. Carvill and Spc. Christopher Duffy, 26, were the first New Jersey National Guard servicemen to die in the Iraq war.
Robert Linke, high school classmate and friend, remembers that Frank knew issues in depth and made informed decisions, that he had worked on congressional campaigns in his youth. As a QP senior, Frank won the RFK Award for work on social issues. Linke said, "My heart aches at his loss."Frank was a longtime resident of Carlstadt, NJ. He was 51. Interment is at Bridagier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown, Ft. Dix. |
