Mr. Koob's Family Remembers QPHS







Mr. John Koob was a 1964 graduate of Queen of Peace High School and was a member of our faculty from 1971 until he lost his battle with lung disease in August 2003.

Mr. Koob co-authored two books:
"A Demo A Day: A Year of Chemical Demonstrations" and "A Demo A Day Volume II" published by Flinn Scientific.

Mr. Koob's family has instructed Flinn Scientific to send all of the royalty payments from the sale of his books to Queen of Peace High School. In accordance with this instruction, Flinn Scientific was pleased to send QPHS a check for $16,345.03 which represented the royalties earned since Mr. Koob's death.

Mr. Koob was the Chairman of the Science Department and an outstanding teacher. He served as president of the Lay Teachers Association and as an assistant baseball coach.

In 1998 he was the recipient of the Outstanding Educator Award from the Archdiocese of Newark.

In 1999 he was the recipient of the Homer J. Hall Award for excellence in teaching chemistry at the high school level from the New Jersey Institute of Chemists.

He was very well-known in many professional endeavors outside school. He was the co-organizer and a driving force in ChemTAG, an association of science teachers in New Jersey. He was a regular presenter at the New Jersey State Science Teachers' Convention as well as a presenter at the National Science Convention. He also served on numerous Middle States Evaluation Committees.
