Project Acceleration Award

Queen of Peace High School was presented an award at the Seton Hall University Project Acceleration Spring Banquet.

The school was acknowledged for being one of the top participating schools for the number of students involved and the level of success.

Since 1978, Project Acceleration, a concurrent enrollment program within the College of Arts and Sciences at Seton Hall University, has allowed high school students in New Jersey and New York to get a head start on their university careers. Over the course of their high school career, students can earn up to 22 credits from Seton Hall University for approved courses taken in their secondary schools.  The college credits earned through Project Acceleration are accepted at more than 200 colleges and universities.

Project Acceleration instructors are considered to be Seton Hall adjunct faculty and have at least a Master's Degree in the discipline in which they teach.

The success of the program is due to the students, the principal, the project coordinator and our instructors, Miss Estelle Bryk, Miss Constance Arace, Miss Gisella Alvarez, Mr. Alan Maisano, and Mr. Joseph Maresca.  Brother Larry Lavallee, FMS, is the school's principal and Mr. George Linke, Assistant Principal for Academics, is the local Project Acceleration Coordinator.

In order for a high school course to be approved as a Project Acceleration Course, a course syllabus detailing the course objectives, textbooks, reading schedule, writing assignments, evaluation procedures, and grading policy is submitted, along with the instructor's resume and credentials, to the university's Coordinator of Project Acceleration.

Project Acceleration courses are observed regularly by either the coordinator of Project Acceleration or appropriate Seton Hall faculty members to insure excellent teaching and rigorous content.

Students can earn up to 22 credits over the course of their high school career, but can take no more than two courses per semester.

Tuition for Project Acceleration courses is $60 per credit hour. (Regular Seton Hall tuition is $797 per credit hour.)

Over the last eight years the program at QP has grown with an average of more than 300 college credits having been earned each year. Over those same years, families of students who have participated have saved nearly two million dollars in tuition costs.
